Core loss and efficiency

EMWORKS EMAG AC Magnetic study computes core losses separated by loss mechanism — hysteresis, eddy current, and excess loss — using the laminate's measured P-B curve. Results are available as totals, per-component values, and 3D field plots. Winding copper losses are computed simultaneously from current density distribution.

EMWORKS EMAG couples AC Magnetic and steady-state thermal solvers in a single study. Joule losses and core losses are passed directly as heat sources to the thermal solver. Results include temperature distribution across core, windings, and tank, and heat flux through insulation and cooling surfaces.

Open and short-circuit test simulation

EMWORKS EMAG runs virtual open-circuit and short-circuit tests from a CAD model with defined laminate properties and coil windings. Each test runs as a separate AC Magnetic study. Results build the transformer's equivalent circuit and support evaluation of efficiency in system-level simulations — without a physical prototype.

Vibration, noise, and structural loading

Magnetostriction in the core and Lorentz forces on the windings are the primary sources of transformer vibration and noise. EMWORKS EMAG couples AC Magnetic with a linear static structural solver to compute displacement and stress in core, windings, and tank. Magnetic shunts can be modeled to evaluate their effect on tank loading and vibration.
