Many DC solenoids are designed assuming fixed current and negligible thermal effects. In practice, most solenoids are voltage-driven, and coil resistance changes significantly as temperature rises.

This webinar presents a simulation-based analysis of voltage-driven DC solenoids, showing how wire gauge, turn count, copper losses, and temperature rise interact to reduce current and force at steady state. Using identical geometries and supply voltage, we compare multiple coil designs and explain why prototypes often underperform relative to cold-coil predictions.

The session focuses on practical design implications and shows why electro-thermal coupling must be considered early in solenoid design.
