EMWorks Academic

Accessible electromagnetic simulation for teaching, labs and research

About EMWorks Academic

EMWorks Academic provides academic licensing for EMWORKS so students, professors and researchers can use the same 2D and 3D electromagnetic tools that are used in industry.

It is intended for courses, projects and research where fields, losses, forces and temperatures need to be studied in realistic geometries, with a built-in CAD environment and Multiphysics solvers.

Why use EMWorks Academic

EMWorks Academic is designed for everyday use in an academic setting

EPIC Accessibility

Ease of Use, Built-In CAD, Integrated Multi-Physics, Cost-Effective academic licensing.

Built-in 3D CAD

Create or edit models directly in EMWORKS or import geometry from other CAD tools when needed.

2D and 3D studies

Use 2D and axisymmetric models for teaching and fast studies, and 3D models when full geometry is important.

Multiphysics options

Couple electromagnetic analysis with thermal, structural and motion studies when the application requires it.

Learning resources

Access examples, tutorials, courses and webinars aligned with typical teaching and research tasks.

Who EMWorks Academic is for

Students

  • Run assigned models and projects on their own machines or in teaching labs.
  • Study fields, forces, currents and temperatures in devices such as transformers, inductors, motors, sensors and induction heating setups.
  • Use simulation results in lab reports, design projects and theses.

Professors and instructors

  • Use EMWORKS in lectures, labs and project courses to connect theory with practical models.
  • Prepare and reuse example models that show core electromagnetic concepts.
  • Set assignments where students work with real 2D or 3D geometries instead of only idealized problems.

Researchers

  • Build and validate models that support journal papers, theses and internal reports.
  • Combine electromagnetic, thermal and structural studies when interactions matter.
  • Use parametric studies to compare design variants, operating points or material choices.

Departments and programs

  • Provide a consistent simulation environment across multiple courses and labs.
  • Align teaching tools with software that students are likely to meet in industry.
  • Use a single platform for instruction, project work and faculty research.

Typical academic uses

EMWorks Academic is commonly used to

Analyze transformers, inductors and chokes in power and energy courses
Study magnetic circuits, actuators and motors in machines and drives courses
Model busbars and conductors for current density and temperature rise
Investigate induction heating or eddy-current effects in materials
Support sensing, NDT and related electromagnetic applications
Provide simulation results for theses and research papers where measurements alone are not sufficient

Modules available under academic licensing

Academic licenses can include the same EMWORKS modules used in commercial settings, depending on the needs of the course or research group

EMAG

Low- to medium-frequency electromagnetic analysis in 2D and 3D

Specific module combinations are agreed based on the intended use (teaching, research or both).

Academic Examples

EMWorks Educational Examples Library features some of the characteristic electromagnetic simulation problems. Brief theoretical description of the problem is followed by a detailed set of instructions for model set-up in EMS or HFWorks.

Download the model files and use them to get started with the software or to build your own simulation.
Feel free to make these examples part of your course material.

Support and learning materials

Academic users have access to

Example projects that can be adapted for labs and assignments

Documentation and tutorials for core workflows and solvers

Webinars and recorded sessions on selected application topics

Technical support for installation, licensing and basic study setup

This reduces the setup effort for instructors and helps students get productive within a limited course timeframe.
