EMS for High Voltage Insulator Design

Friday, March 31, 2017

Insulators are commonly used in high-voltage power transmission. These insulators are extremely difficult to test and validate in a lab because they are expensive, risky and time consuming. The design and sizing of the insulator is very critical as their primary purpose is to insulate the live conductors from the transmission towers. Insulators can fail if the electric field inside them reaches their breakdown voltage and the design of the insulator must ensure that the electric field is well below the breakdown point for all worst case operating conditions. In this webinar we will take an insulator design and calculate the Electric Field and compare it against the break down voltage for several worst case operating conditions. We will demonstrate how easy it is to design, validate and optimize insulators for high-voltage power transmission.
