Tips for Permanent Magnet Linear Generators Design
Numerous research papers have reported that the PMLG has several distinct advantages including high efficiency, i.e., >90%, small air gap, and a small size.  In addition, PMLG is environmentally friendly as it emits no CO2 and consumes no fossil fuel.  However, there are several challenges and hurdles that must be overcome including demagnetization of the permanent magnets due to temperature rise, and high cogging force which can produce noise and vibration.

Based on our experience simulating PMLG using the popular EMWorks’ virtual prototyping software EMS, we will offer you several design tips and recommendations, in this webinar.

How Safe is Wearing a Metal During an MRI Scan?
Magnetic resonance imaging or MRI is a powerful imaging technique to obtain detailed organs and tissues images throughout the body without the use of x-rays or the so-called ionizing radiation.  Unlike x-ray and CT scan, MRI produces no ionizing radiation; hence, there is no limit on the number of MRI scans a patient can have in a given year.  However, it has another big limitation.  It interacts with metals in two distinct ways.  The first is related to the external large static field which generates a magnetic force on ferromagnetic materials. The second interaction with the metals is caused by the varying RF waves used in the MRI machines.  

In this webinar, we will explain to you, in details, along with simulation examples, these two limitations. EMWorks’ popular electromagnetic packages, EMS and HFWorks will be used to simulate the two phenomena and visualize the results, all in SolidWorks.  At the end of the webinar, we will tell you how safe is wearing a metal during an MRI scan.

An Efficient Technique to Reduce the Mutual Coupling between Antenna Elements
The miniaturization of antenna arrays imposes on the designer to place a large number of elements in a small footprint.  This action gives rise to the so-called mutual coupling, which, in turn, causes crosstalk and distortion leading to the deterioration in the antenna performance and potential distortion of the radiation pattern.  This coupling is considered, by many antenna designers, as the main obstacle to miniaturizing antenna arrays, especially for 5G networks.

In this webinar, we will show you how HFWorks can be used to simulate the effects of introducing a meander-line slot (ML) on the reduction of the mutual coupling between antenna elements.  Both S-parameters and field plots for an antenna array with and without ML will be presented.  Some design recommendations using HFWorks and SolidWorks will be given.

Defected Ground Structure (DGS), which is a simplified version of Electromagnetic Band Gap, has recently become popular in improving the frequency response of various passive components without sacrificing the overall size of the structure. However, such improvement is very much dependent on the size, shape, and position of the DGS.

In this webinar, we will show you, step-by-step, how to use the virtual prototyping high-frequency software, HFWorks, to improve the frequency response of a microstrip lowpass filter using a DGS.
