ABB Automation Products business unit in Västerås, Sweden designs and produces large and powerful DC motors for major industrial applications.  The output power of such motors actually ranges from 30 KW to 1400 KW!

The Research & Development Department of the DC Motors division is currently developing a new generation of larger DMI motors.  They use the CAD software package SolidWorks and its Gold Certified electromagnetic Add-in, EMS, from EMWorks to optimize their design.  With the help of these powerful design tools, they aim to develop powerful DC machines.  Such machines will achieve output power and torque significantly higher and more compact than any DC motors available on the market today.
