Modeling of Linear Electric Machines

Thursday, September 22, 2022

Direct-driven linear machines are opted by engineers to simplify and improve the efficiency of their electromechanical systems such as electrical vehicles (EVs), travelator, robotics, and several other industrial applications. Linear motors can achieve high acceleration rates and long travel lengths with good thrust forces and extremely high positioning accuracies. In contrast, other drive mechanisms such as belts, screws, or rack and pinions must sacrifice at least one of these requirements to achieve similar performance. In addition, linear motors are characterized by their simple and lightweight structure, ease to manufacture, high force density, improved heat dissipation, and low maintenance cost.  The increase in demand for linear motors has also been accompanied by more stringent design requirements and strict performance specifications, hence, more challenging design endeavours.  Engineers and electric machine designers must strive to overcome these issues and develop innovative solutions to meet all requirements and application needs.

In this webinar, you will learn some basics modeling techniques of linear electrical machines. We will show you how to use electromagnetic and Multiphysics simulation tools to analyze both motor and generator operation of a linear machine. Performance results such as magnetic field plots, electromagnetic core losses, power, thrust force, no-load force, back EMF, and temperature will be demonstrated and discussed during the live session. You will have the chance to share your thoughts, discuss your ideas, and ask your questions to our experts during the QA session.
