Direction-Sensitive Microwave Sensor for Metal Crack Detection

Thursday, January 19, 2023

Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) has drawn great interest in recent years. SHM involves continuous monitoring of structural surface changes through sensors and data processing techniques.  The aging of materials, environmental effects, and construction errors can induce fatigue and cracks in metallic surfaces such as aircraft metal airframes and steel bridges. Crack detection is crucial for monitoring the structural integrity of metallic structures and avoiding catastrophic failures. Microwave crack sensors have gained much attention due to their attractive characteristics such as low cost, simpler fabrication, and high sensitivity.

In this webinar, we will shed light on some of the metal crack sensor design challenges. We shall show you how to overcome such challenges, thus, achieve an efficient design of the crack sensor, using 3D high-frequency electromagnetic virtual prototyping software.
