Eddy Current Analysis of Conducting Electrode Connected to a Voltage Source


The model consists of an electrode connected to a voltage source. Taking into account the symmetry of the problem only half of the electrode structure needs to be built and modeled. The figure below shows half of the model with the air region.


Skin Depth in the Copper Electrode

The first step is always to calculate the skin depth (d) or the depth of penetration of the field for the conducting regions using the relation:

for the current problem, the skin depth must be calculated in the copper electrode at a frequency f = 100 Hz, m = mo = 4p X 10-7 H/m and s = 5.8 X 107 S/m. Thus d = 6.6 mm.
