Magnetostatic Analysis Of a C_Core

The following figure depicts a C-core with a permanent magnet. It is required to calculate the magnetic flux field, the stored magnetic energy and co-energy.

The dimensions in the X-Y plane are shown in the figure below (click the link at the bottom of this page). The depth in the Z direction is 5.0 . The coercivity of the permanent magnet is 8000 A/m in the Y-direction.

Constructing the Model

COSMOSDesignSTAR supports all popular CAD systems. This model's geometry was constructed in SolidWorks. A box surrounding the structure was built to include 1.5 layers of air from the edges. As a result, the dimensions of the box surrounding the model are 9.0 in the X-direction, 9.0 in the Y-direction, and 5.0 in the Z-direction.

For magnetostatic analysis, you need to mesh all components (including air). To confine the field inside the computational domain, a tangential flux boundary condition will be applied on the outer boundary faces of the air box.
